If you or your child are at high risk from COVID-19, you may be eligible for a 2nd dose from 8 weeks after your 1st dose. If you’re registered with us and think you’re eligible, contact our Support Team.

If you have any issues booking your COVID-19 vaccination appointment, please call the NHS on 119.

COVID-19 autumn booster

The Autumn Booster Campaign will begin the week commencing 5th September with an initial focus on care homes and housebound patients. The National Booking System will open in that week to those aged 75 years and over and self-declaring health and social care workers (HSCW) to book their COVID-19 vaccination appointment from 12th September at the earliest.

The NHS will contact you if you’re eligible for a COVID-19 autumn booster and when it’s your turn to book.

You should have your booster at least 3 months after your last dose of vaccine.

COVID-19 medical exemptions

In line with removing the domestic NHS COVID Pass for use in venues or events as a condition of entry, the medical exemptions service is no longer accepting new applications.

If you have already submitted a medical exemption application that requires assessment to us, we will continue processing your application forms until 11 July 2022. The clinical decision on your medical exemption is final. You cannot appeal the decision. However, if you are unsatisfied with the process of gaining an exemption, you can raise it with your local commissioning body or call the 119 service to report your feedback.

NHS COVID Pass

You can use the NHS COVID Pass to share your coronavirus (COVID-19) status records or COVID-19 test status in a secure way when travelling abroad to some countries or territories.

You can get an NHS COVID Pass:

  • digitally through the NHS App or online via NHS.UK
  • as a letter sent to you in the post, for those who are not digitally enabled by calling 119

Your GP practice is unable to issue NHS COVID passes or letters.

The NHS COVID Pass is usually available within 24 hours of having your vaccination, but it can take up to 5 days for your records to be updated. If you are using the NHS App, you do not need to request access from your registered GP. Your NHS COVID Pass will be shown in the NHS app automatically after having the vaccinations.

Find the full information on the UK Government website. To learn more about the NHS app, visit the NHS website.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get my primary / booster dose moved earlier?

No. The guidance on this is very strict at the moment and primary / booster doses are unable to be given any earlier than specified timeframe for each eligible group. When booking online, you will be offered the first available date for when you are eligible for your next dose.

I’ve had my COVID-19 vaccines abroad - can I get an NHS COVID Pass?

To register your overseas vaccinations, you’ll need to book an appointment with the NHS at a selected list of vaccination centres across England.

Book an appointment to register your overseas vaccination with the NHS

Please note that there are currently a limited number of sites offering these appointments.

GP practices are NOT able to generate an NHS Covid Pass or issue any letters as proof of vaccination. Whilst we can add details of your overseas vaccinations to your GP record, this will NOT enable an NHS Covid Pass.

I am new to the NHS and have recently registered with GP at Hand, when can I book my vaccine?

After you’ve registered with a GP practice, it usually takes 1-2 weeks for the NHS systems to be updated. Once the NHS systems have been updated you will be able to book your vaccination online.

Please allow at least 2 weeks for the NHS systems to be updated when trying to book your appointment online.

You may be able to get your vaccination sooner at a COVID-19 walk-in vaccination site. You do not need an appointment or to be registered with a GP.

Can I pay to get the vaccination done privately?

No. COVID-19 vaccines are currently only available via the NHS vaccination programme at this time.

I've had my vaccine at a walk-in vaccination site but my NHS Covid Pass hasn't updated

You'll usually see the updates on your NHS COVID Pass within 24 hours of having your vaccination – however it can take up to 5 days for your records to be updated.

If your pass has not been updated after 5 days, you should contact the walk-in vaccination site. Unfortunately, GPs are not able to update your NHS COVID Pass with these details at present.
